The 177th winner of the St Leger, held on Saturday 12th September 1953 over 1 mile 6 furlongs and 132 yards of Town Moor, was Premonition, a bay colt by Precipitation out of Trial Ground, owned by Mr Wilfrid Wyatt. A field of 11 runners contested the race which was worth £9,750. (Equivalent to £257,400 in 2017)
